Cubbies Culture

Chicago is BUZZING with excitement. And I got to experience it first hand last weekend. 71 years since the Chicago Cubs have been in the World Series and 108 years since they've won...the fans are turning inSiDe ouT! There is nothing like Wrigley...there is no people group like Cubs Fans.

My dad, Joe Grana, has been a Cubs fan since 1954. We had a Cubs bathroom, decked out in Cubs wallpaper, a baseball bat towel holder, The Cubs Fan Guide to Life as your reading pleasure, Norman Rockwell's, "The Rookie" on the wall and the toilet would play Take Me out to the Ballgame when you lifted the lid. That's some serious loyalty. I've only known the Cubs, and I, too, have loved the Cubbies as long as I can remember. Sharing the love of baseball with my Dad my whole life has been a super fun - with him as my softball coach for 5 years (he's very proud that we were undefeated for all but one game of those 5 years:), going to baseball games every year out here in California and on our trips back to Chicago...all super fun and amazing. But you can't separate baseball memories from Dad's extreme loyalty to the Chicago Cubs. It is ALL intertwined. Because being a Cubs Fan is a way of life.

Ladies and gentlemen. Cubbies Culture.

On my flight from San Diego to Chicago, the plane broke out in "Go CUBS Go" so the flight attendant invited someone to come up and lead it. And the whole plane sang it. This is the day of World Series 2016 Game 4.

Here is Wrigley from the sky!

I don't think many teams have a WHOLE CITY dedicated to their team. Even on the outskirts...there is serious Cubbie Love. Welcome to Wrigleyville.

If you don't know what the W is...its a Cubs tradition to FLY the W every time the Cubs WIN.

Just in case you were wondering what the Official Chicken Sausage of Wrigley Field was.

These guys! The ghosts of the 1908 Cubs World Series Champs

This lovely Cubs Fan is 99 years old.

The Chicago Police were even in the Cubbies Spirit. Taking selfies with fans, letting them take pictures with the horses, taking pictures of fans. I watched one policeman take pictures for several fans, and every time, he acted like he messed up the first picture, but he was actually taking a picture of himself. He thought he was pretty funny.

And everyone's favorite Cubs Fan, Dr. Joe Grana, has a story that will probably make you cry. His students at Hope International University love him so much, that they put together a Go Fund Me page to get him tickets to the World Series at Wrigley. They raised $5,000! His dream come true. He and my Mom, Linda, got to see Game Four. NBC Chicago found out about this sweet story and interviewed him.
